Debuting alongside the refreshed Everest, Ford has also given its Ranger pickup truck a refresh for 2021. While the platform is something that can be traced back to 2011, Ford has facelifted it countless of times keeping it fresh.
For 2021 though, Ford’s work on the Ranger is fairly minimal with all variants now sporting the same trapezoidal-shaped grille first introduced in the FX4. They are reminiscent of Ford’s North American pickup truck line. The Wildtrak adds orange highlights on them (as well as on the rear sports bar) too. Along with the new grille, the 2021 Ranger drops the chrome with either body-colored or high-gloss black finishes for the side mirrors, door handles, and wheels.
Mechanically, the Ranger continues unchanged with the same engine choices: a 2.2-liter turbo diesel (160 horsepower, 385 Nm), a single-turbo 2.0-liter diesel (180 horsepower, 420 Nm), or a twin-turbo 2.0-liter diesel (213 horsepower, 500 Nm). It’s worth noting though that while outputs remain the same, Ford says they’ve made some “material changes” to the 2.0-liter engine. The 2.2-liter engine remains available in both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic flavors, while the 2.0-liter turbo is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.
This is likely the current T6’s last hurrah before the all-new model, co-developed with Volkswagen (and rumored for a 2022 debut) is unveiled.
about time. Chrome is tacky as hell.
