In the latest data released by Carousell (formerly OLX), Toyota’s 7-seater MPV emerged as the most popular car among Filipinos. One of the world’s largest and fastest-growing online classifieds site identified the Innova as the most searched for car among its more than 20,000 monthly listings that comprise 54 car brands from January to September 2020.

Aside from the Innova, the Vios, and its direct competitor, the Honda City also proved to be very popular among Filipinos looking for a good deal. As the pandemic persists, it’s very clear buying preferences has skewed towards vehicles which are renowned for their reliability, durability, and ease of maintenance. Apart from Toyota and Honda, Carousell says Mitsubishi and Suzuki are also very popular searches for vehicles priced below P 1 million.

As budgets go up, there’s a clear shift from every day practicality to something with a bit more style. Carousell notes that Filipinos love for SUVs remain undiminished with the Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner being the most popular choices in the P 1 million to P 1.4 million range. Moving up still, buyers tend to go for the Ford Explorer or luxury brands such as BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz. The most popular sportscar? The Ford Mustang.

While second-hand car listings still dominate—with cars as low as P 200,000 or as low as P 600,000 for SUVs, brand-new cars are now starting to appear among top searches as well. This is attributed to a change in Filipino buying behavior. Due to concerns surrounding the pandemic, car window shopping has gone virtual.
