While the mildly refreshed Everest and Ranger grabbed all the headlines, Ford says they’ve also made running changes to its 2.0-liter diesel engine, and they’re now offering an unprecedented warranty program (if you’re in Thailand) to back it up.
Power and torque ratings remain unchanged for the EcoBlue 2.0-liter engine, but according to the carmaker:
Ford has a dedicated team of engineers constantly striving to develop Ford vehicles that offer the most advanced technology, the latest designs, and state-of-the-art features that help deliver an unrivalled driving experience. By utilizing data analytics, customer feedback, as well as series of testing, the 2.0L engine has been further engineered with key manufacturing technology and material upgrades. These changes are, according to Ford, sufficient enough that they’re backing them up with the ultimate guarantee: a 10-year drivetrain warranty (at least in Thailand). Officially called the Ford 10-Year Driveline Care Program, it covers Ranger and Everest models using the 2.0-liter for a period of 10 years or 150,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.
It covers components surrounding the engine, transmission, and drive axles. The detailed list of parts covered by the Driveline Care Program are pretty extensive and these include the fuel injectors, fuel pump, turbocharger, ECU, and both the electronic and mechanical components of the 10-speed gearbox.
The package even includes free periodic maintenance for five years, and free emergency roadside assistance for the first three.
Should Ford Philippines offer something similar?
Currently, they do, but only for a period of five years; and it only covers the Ranger Raptor. Imagine if they start offering the Driveline Care Program on the refreshed Ranger and Everest (due sometime in 2021)—this could help remove any hesitation people have over a Ford’s cost of ownership.
