Toyota Just Converted This Land Cruiser to Run Purely on Electric Power

Toyota’s venerable Land Cruiser is getting an all-electric treatment. Converted from a Land Cruiser 70 Series single-cab pickup, this EV version is part of the automaker’s small-scale trial which will see it become a workhorse.

Toyota’s in-house Product Planning and Development division in Australia spearheaded the conversion, in cooperation with Australia’s leading resources company, BHP. Here, the 4.5-liter turbodiesel engine underneath the Land Cruiser 70 Series’ hood was swapped for an electric motor.

As such, this special Land Cruiser will not require any fuel to run—perfect because it’s meant to work underground in BHP’s Nickel West mine in Western Australia.

Toyota has yet to reveal any mechanical details about this EV conversion, and whether they will offer the conversion kit to the public. Regardless, they did say that this is another step to its zero emissions future.
