The all-new, 2021 RS Q8, Audi Sport’s most dynamic model in the Q range of SUVs, is now on sale in Audi Philippines’ showrooms. Its arrival closely follows that of the RS 3 Sedan’s which, together with the RS 6 Avant, spearheads the introduction of Audi Sport—the high-performance division of Audi AG—in the country.
Audi Sport’s other RS models, including the R8 supercar, are set to be launched in the Philippines throughout 2021.
The 2021 RS Q8 is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 engine, which produces 600 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque between 2,200 rpm and 4,500 rpm. Matched to the engine is an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. This combination can launch the model from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, and to 200 km/h in 13.7 seconds. It is also a key factor in the all-new RS Q8 being able to set the fastest lap time for production SUVs, at seven minutes and 42 seconds, in the highly demanding Nurburgring Nordschleife race track.
Despite its performance-oriented nature, the RS Q8 remains fuel efficient because it comes fitted with a mild-hybrid system that, in certain conditions, can let it coast for up to 40 seconds with the engine switched off. Also helping out is the engine’s cylinder-on-demand system, which can deactivate some of the cylinders to cut on fuel consumption.
Like all RS models, the all-new RS Q8 is equipped with Audi Sport’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system that splits the drive power between the front and rear axles depending on available traction.
Standard on the all-new, 2021 RS Q8 is the RS adaptive air suspension sport with controlled damping, which can be set up toward dynamic handling even while retaining the model’s inherently comfortable and smooth ride. Boosting the model’s performance are an all-wheel steering system, RS ceramic brakes, and the RS sport exhaust. The engine’s notes can be tuned via the Audi drive select system, which can also alter the handling and dynamic responses of the all-new, 2021 RS Q8.
Distinguishing the RS Q8 from the rest of the Q8 line-up are its RS-specific Singleframe radiator grille, side air inlets, and other trim included in the extended leather package; HD Matrix headlamps; wide quattro blisters above the wheel arches that provide space for the model’s more generous wheel track; the RS roof-edge spoiler and rear skirt with a diffuser clip that provide increased downforce; and 23-inch sport alloy wheels.
In the cabin, it boasts of special RS displays and graphics in the Audi virtual cockpit and MMI, including a shift light. RS badges on the sport seats, illuminated door sill trim and flat-bottom leather steering wheel elevate the model. Also included among other luxury features are the air quality package, seats with massage function, a premium B&O audio system, carbon fiber trim, an extended leather package, and soft-closing doors. It also has a comprehensive range of over 30 assist systems.
