In a bid to increase its sales five-fold this year, Maxus Philippines quietly brought in a manual transmission variant of its G50 MPV.
Priced just P 948,000, the G50 Comfort is meant to compete not just against the base Toyota Innova, but interestingly enough, can compete even against some variants of the Toyota Innova, Honda Mobilio, and Mitsubishi Xpander.
Unlike the automatic transmission variants of the G50, the G50 Comfort is powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. In this guise, it makes 150 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm (compared to the 1.5T’s 169 horsepower, 250 Nm of torque outputs). This engine is coupled to a 6-speed manual.
Aside from the engine, the P 140,000 difference from the 1.5T Pro means that some convenience features had to give way in the G50 Comfort. Among the sacrifices are: a urethane steering wheel with no multi-function controls, a non-touchscreen infotainment system, no push-start system, no rear aircon, no rear camera, and no rear wiper. Even the parking brake is a conventional one (non-electric).
For those who’re eyeing the G50 Comfort, there’s going to be some hunting involved. Maxus Philippines says they only brought a handful of these models to “test the market.” It’s currently unknown whether they’ll be bringing in more.
