The Navara’s American cousin, the Frontier gets its first full top-down update in 17 years as Nissan continues with its Nissan NEXT transformation plan.
The all-new second-generation 2022 Frontier features an aggressive design with a massive grille and chiseled hood, framed by interlocking headlights. The elevated stance, thanks to the vertical fenders, evoke strength accentuated by a high eye-point and high shoulders. And like the Navara, the Frontier gets a PRO-4X trim which adds unique lighting treatment as well as Lava Red accents.
Underneath, the Navara is built on a proven chassis designed and engineered to meet the demands of American truck owners.
Despite the carryover bones, the steering ratio has been increased by 16 percent for a faster response, while the suspension is new as well (standard Bilsteins on the PRO-4X). New hydraulic cab mounts reduce road vibration by 80 percent, while new urethane jounce bumpers provide improved damping for a smoother ride. In addition to a larger front stabilizer bar, a rear stabilizer bar reduces body roll and increases traction.
Power is provided by a 310-horsepower, 381 Nm of torque 3.8-liter direct injected V6 engine matched to a 9-speed automatic for strong acceleration and maximum efficiency.
Inside, the 2022 Frontier comes with the largest touchscreen in its class measuring in at 9 inches. The system, which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, is coupled with a configurable 7-inch Advanced Driver Assist Display. Other features include acoustic laminated glass for the front doors and Zero Gravity seats to reduce long-range driving fatigue.
Like the Navara, the Frontier comes with Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Off-Road mode. This makes it ideal to negotiate tight trails without having an external spotter to avoid potential body scrapes or dents.
Other features include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic Braking.
Designed, engineered, and built in the U.S.A., suffice to say that the 2022 Frontier will be made for that market only. That said, do you prefer its styling over the 2021 Navara?
The Frontier’s overall design is closer to the Titan compared to the Navarra. It looks fresh and more masculine. There is a similarity of the Frontier’s hood to that of the Tacoma’s. It’s front doors have a hint of the F150’s. I prefer the Frontier’s looks over that of the Navarra. My two cents worth.
