Subaru wants to embrace the off-road lifestyle as it prepares a sub-brand to go head-to-head with the likes of Jeep and Bronco.
Reports say the Japanese automaker’s U.S. division is planning to launch the Wilderness sub-brand for the Outback and Forester models.
Subaru has yet to reveal anything official, but it’s said that the Wilderness line-up will build on the brand’s core technologies such as high ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and advanced off-road driving modes. It will also gain a more rugged appearance too.
These tidbits of info ties in nicely with camouflaged Outback and Forester models sporting increased ground clearance undergoing road tests.
The Outback Wilderness will be introduced first in the next few months, followed by the Forester Wilderness.
The Wilderness sub-brand is a response to a growing clamor to have Subarus with even more off-road capability. Citing the success of the Forester Sport model, Subaru aims to capture a younger demographic in the same vein as Ford’s Bronco and Jeep.
