Mark your calendars as the all-new 2021 D-Max finally has a Philippine launch date: March 4, 2021. And based on the teaser photo, there’s a lot to get excited about.
While the teaser photo has the D-Max partly obscured by shadows, it’s clear at this point that Isuzu Philippines is going all out by bringing in the D-Max V-Cross. Serving as the top-of-the-line variant of the D-Max in Thailand, it’s distinguishable from other D-Max variants with its blacked-out grille and bi-LED headlights.
If that’s the case, it’s safe to assume that along with this sporty trim, Isuzu Philippine will make available the 3.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel outputting 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
It’s expected that Isuzu Philippines will be bringing in the “regular” D-Max as well. Those variants will likely be powered by an improved version of the RZ4E engine with 150 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
The first full model change for Isuzu’s pickup truck in about eight years, the all-new D-Max rides on the brand-new platform which incorporates ultra-high strength steel for the very first time. Dubbed the Isuzu Dynamic Drive Platform, the aim is to achieve a balance of driving performance by integrating various elements such as the powertrain and suspension.
Along with improved on-road performance, the D-Max gets added off-road prowess as well. It comes equipped with a new electromagnetic rear differential lock for faster switch times between two- and four-wheel drive, a ground clearance of 240 mm, and a water wading depth of 800 mm.
The new platform and robust construction has also enabled the all-new D-Max to score perfect at the ASEAN NCAP as well as the more stringent Euro NCAP.
Isuzu Philippines will reveal more information in the coming weeks, but for now, interested owners can register their interest on the 2021 D-Max through this link.
Isuzu has a history of bringing in underspecced units in PH compared to other markets. Let's see if that remains true on March 4. Better to not expect much to be not disappointed
