Despite the growing popularity of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV still managed to hold on to its title as Europe’s best-selling PHEV.
The pioneering compact SUV from Mitsubishi closed out 2020, selling 26,673 units across Europe, helping it secure the top spot. It also remains the second best-selling PHEV across all segments despite the huge number of competitors entering the market last year.
In the UK alone, sales of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV since 2014 have now topped 53,000 with Outlander topping the SUV PHEV charts in 2020 with 3,736 sales.
The popularity of PHEVs is growing across Europe with many governments now incentivizing the technology to encourage customers to take their first steps towards electrified transportation. Recent studies show that PHEVs are accelerating an attitudinal shift for the future with 70 percent of PHEV owners now considering a fully electric vehicle for the next purchase compared to just 27 percent of ICE (internal combustion engine) drivers.
Just last year, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines also introduced the Outlander PHEV locally, with selected dealers carrying the compact SUV with a retail price of P 2,998,000. You can also read our review of the Outlander PHEV here.
Is it selling well locally?
