Audi Shines a Light on Advanced Lighting Technology

In less than two decades, cars have shifted from halogen to HID to LED lighting. At the forefront of all this, Audi has been one of the leaders in the transition—using lighting technologies not just to give it a high level of function, but also a strong and unique design identity.

In 2003, the Audi A8 of the time offered adaptive lighting with automatic-dynamic headlight range control. Less than a decade later, the Audi R8 introduced dynamic turn signals which were much more perceptible, marking a significant gain in safety. In 2017, Audi presented LED headlights featuring HD Matrix technology—in the A8 these even came with a laser serving as an additional high-beam light.

In recent years, Audi has started “digitizing” the Matrix LED headlight. Digital OLED rear lamps also expanded the selection of designs for current Audi models. The developments are opening up new possibilities as light becomes a medium of communication and interaction, able to give Audi customers a variety of styling and customization options.

In the new Audi Q7 for example, its HD Matrix LED headlights not only provide the best and most intelligent illumination possible, but actually emphasize the contours of the 7-seater SUV. The same goes for the back, where the LED taillights are defined by technical graphics.

Of course, the 2021 Q7 is more than just its lights. With a length stretching more than five meters, its interior is even more spacious with class-leading head- and elbow room across all three rows.

Some of its convenience and luxury features include a new operating system that uses two large touchscreens with haptic and acoustic feedback, the Audi virtual cockpit plus with high-resolution color display, Parking Aid Plus with a 360-degree display, four-zone automatic climate control, soft-closing doors with hands-free power tailgate, and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with a rear seat interface.

Powering the 2021 Audi Q7 is a 3.0-liter TDI V6 turbocharged diesel with 286 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic with quattro all-wheel drive. The engine is equipped with a mild hybrid system, guaranteeing efficiency along with performance. The system uses a belt alternator starter to power a 48-volt main electrical system, in which a compact lithium-ion battery stores energy recovered during braking. The new Audi Q7 uses this energy to coast for up to 40 seconds with its engine switched off—it restarts immediately as soon as the accelerator is pressed.

The new 2021 Audi Q7 is now available in the Philippines. For more information, visit Audi Philippines showrooms in EDSA, Mandaluyong, Bonifacio Global City, Westgate Alabang, and SM Seaside Cebu.
