Geely PH Plans to Overtake Kia, MG in Terms of Sales in 2021

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) is targeting a big 2021, after it was recognized by Geely Auto as its Distributor of the Year in Marketing.

Geely Automobile International Corporation (GAIC) Deputy General Manager Jenny Jin commended SGAP for being able to exceptionally perform in spite of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions. Jin also mentioned that in 2020, Geely had the highest export volume to the Philippines among all Chinese brands.

“On behalf of the company (GAIC), I would like to express my high respect and sincere thanks to all of you, our partners who worked hard to make positive contribution to the company’s development,” Jin said.

For 2021, SGAP aims to continue the trend towards higher sales and stronger market presence. It has set its sales target to around 9,500 units for this year. According to SGAP Sales and Marketing General Manager Froilan Dytianquin, “This will provide around 3 percent market share given that the new vehicle demand is forecasted to be at 300,000. This forecasted volume and market share will generally make Geely further climb up in the industry ranking.”

Dytianquin revealed these targets during the first-ever Geely dealer conference which was held virtually.

Based on full-year 2020 figures, the 9,500-unit sales target would be enough to cement Geely as one of the best-selling car brands locally overtaking MG (3,432 units) and Kia (2,219 units). It would also put them within striking distance of both Isuzu and Honda.

SGAP President & CEO Mikihisa Takayama expressed his confidence on the Geely brand this year, “2021 has presented its own challenges this year. Starting off with the imposition of additional safeguard tariff in most imported vehicles. This policy is seen to hurt majority of the automotive brands in the country, including us. But with our collaborative efforts, we will continue to deliver on our commitment to provide our customers better value for the ride they deserve.”
