Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) joins other Japanese carmakers like Toyota and Isuzu in requiring an additional cash deposit when purchasing selected vehicles due to the implementation of the DTI’s safeguard tariff.
With the DTI Department Administrative Order (DAO) 20-11 now in effect, buyers of the Xpander, Montero Sport (except the GT 4WD) will require a deposit of P 78,400 (VAT inclusive), while the Strada, including the Cab & Chassis variant is hit with a P 123,200 (VAT inclusive) cash deposit.
Similar to Toyota and Isuzu, the deposit is collected upon downpayment, and may be refunded depending on the Tariff Commission’s final decision.
The Montero Sport 4x4 GT, Outlander PHEV, L300, and Mirage / Mirage G4 are not affected by the safeguard tariff.
MMPC says that dealers still have available Xpander, Montero Sport 2WD, and Strada vehicles on hand that are not yet affected by the provisional safeguard duty (these were imported before February 1, 2021), and these are not affected by the provisional cash deposit.
