Mitsubishi Motors Thailand celebrated a new milestone: the cumulative production of six million units.
Thailand is an important manufacturing hub for the Japanese carmaker as they’ve export to more than 120 countries throughout the world. In fact, out of the six million units, they’ve exported 4.4 million or around 73 percent. The sixth millionth unit to be produced is the Strada / Triton pickup truck.
“Thailand has become our largest export base in the ASEAN region,” said Takao Kato, chief executive officer of MMC. “Mitsubishi Motors Thailand produces the popular Triton [Strada] and Mirage, and we have started production of the Outlander PHEV—a premium plug-in hybrid SUV with high-performance but is eco-friendly in the end of 2020.”
MMC commenced operations in Thailand in 1961 and celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. It reached the milestone of one million total units produced in 2003, two million in 2010, three million in 2013, four million in 2015, and five million in 2018.
Mitsubishi says Thailand will continue driving the car maker’s growth as a production and export hub in the critically important ASEAN region.
