Its arrival may have been a tad delayed, but Ford Philippines is now pre-selling its mid-sized North American SUV, the all-new 2021 Explorer. It’ll be made available in two variants and initially three colors only.
Built from the ground up on a new platform, the all-new Explorer features standard rear wheel drive. Moreover, the move to a new architecture enabled designers to give it a more athletic appearance as well as more passenger room than ever before.
For now, Ford Philippines will make only the 2.3 Limited as the sole trim level, available in both 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. With that, it comes with a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 304 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. A 10-speed automatic is the sole gearbox available.
As the Limited trim, the Explorer will receive chrome and silver accents on the grille, side cladding, and tailgate. It’ll also have automatic LED head- and taillights, and will ride on 20-inch rims with 255/55R20 all-season tires.
No shots of the interior have been revealed, but the Explorer Limited gets leather seating with micro-perforation as standard. This will be joined by features such as ambient interior lighting, second row sun blinds, a tri-zone automatic climate control, and a SYNC-powered infotainment system with a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, and wireless charger.
The 4x4 variant offers the Terrain Management System with 7 selectable driving modes. These modes include deep snow/sand, sport, two/haul. It is likely that it will have even more luxury features such as a powered driver’s seat with memory, hands-free foot activated power tailgate, and third-row power folding seats.
For safety, the 2021 Explorer will arrive with Ford Co-Pilot 360+. This combines driver assist and crash prevention features such as a forward sensing system, lane keeping system, rear view camera with washer.
As for pricing, Ford dealers are now accepting reservations at P 2,698,000 for the Explorer 2.3 Limited 4x2 and P 2,998,000 for the Explorer 2.3 Limited 4x4. Confirmed colors so far are Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, Atlas Blue, and Agate Black.
