Toyota Maybe Transforming Its Smallest Car into an SUV

Contrary to earlier reports, Toyota didn’t unveil its next collaboration with Subaru. Instead, they’ve shown off their commitment to the most affordable A-segment with the world’s first peek at its upcoming Aygo replacement.

Technically a concept for now, the Aygo X prologue takes a very SUV-like approach, a response perhaps to market preference towards that body style.

Since the nameplate’s launch in 2005, it has been Toyota’s most accessible car (think Wigo). A symbol of personal mobility, the new Aygo X prologue adds a bit more personality with its wing-like headlamp design, wedged roofline, front skid plates, and increased ground clearance.

As with most concept cars, there are some silly bits. In the case of the Aygo X prologue, it’s an action camera housed in the door mirror, and a rear skid plate that integrates a bicycle-holder mount.

For the concept, it has chosen a bi-tone color design. Its “Sparking Chili Red” color adds blue metallic flakes into the paint giving it a unique, dazzling effect.

Toyota hasn’t given any mechanical details on the all-new Aygo X prologue, but they’ve confirmed that it’ll migrate onto the TNGA platform as well. It’ll share the GA-B platform currently used by the Yaris and Yaris Cross.
