GM Might Produce This Kei Car-Inspired EV Roadster

Wuling, General Motor’s joint-venture Chinese brand with SAIC Motor produced once heck of a hit with the Hongguan Mini EV. At around P 212,000, it’s the cheapest global EV you can buy. Now, in time for the Auto Shanghai, they’re branching out by offering a drop-top version.

It might be a concept for now, but according to several sources, the Hongguan Mini EV Cabrio is headed to production. For its drop-top transformation, Wuling’s removed the rear seats making this a strict two-seater. Aside from that, Wuling’s made some styling changes such as outfitting it with LED head- and taillights, more stylish wheels, and fitting it with contrasting color trim.

Inside, the Hongguan Mini EV Cabrio gets a larger infotainment screen and now merges with the instrument panel to create one big LCD display. It also gets a multi-function steering wheel as well.

The regular Hongguan Mini EV has a respectable 105 km/h top speed, and is offered with two battery options—a 9.3 kWh unit with 120-kilometer range, and a 13.9 kWh unit with a 170-kilometer range. It is likely the Cabrio will receive the same options if it does head to showrooms.
