In February 2019, Honda confirmed that it’s closing its Swindon, U.K. manufacturing plant, the only plant in the world that produces the FK8 Civic Type R. Today, we now know when the final Civic Type R will roll off the assembly line, and that’s in July.
This information comes from Australia’s Drive who also said that Honda’s Australian operations have stopped ordering Civic Type Rs since late last year. Demand remains strong for the Civic Type R down under that the final two shipments have all been spoken for.
In the Philippines, the Civic Type R sold well initially, selling out its first 100 units in just a couple of days. However, the second batch which included the new Polished Metal Metallic color didn’t sell as well. Two years on, several Honda dealers still have remaining stocks, prompting Honda Cars Philippines to slap a hefty P 180,000 cash discount.
Globally though, this won’t be the end of the road for Honda’s hot hatch. After the closing of the Swindon U.K. plant, production of the Civic Type R will move to the United States and will be launched in late 2022 as a 2023 model.
