A day after its global launch, Toyota has confirmed that the all-new 2022 GR 86 will join the Gran Turismo Sport roster by the middle of the year. The announcement comes as Toyota Gazoo Racing announced details for its Toyota Gazoo Racing GT Cup (TGR Cup) 2021.
Last year, the Toyota GT Cup exclusively used the GR Supra sportscar. This year, the global series will include not just the GR Supra, but the GR Yaris as well as the GR 86. Moreover, it will also include dedicated Toyota racing cars as well.
Toyota says that by varying the car models for each round, players can enjoy added variety—something that is difficult in real-life motorsports.
The TGR GT Cup will start in April and will run until December.
There will be seven qualifying rounds, with the final round to be held in conjunction with the FIA GT Championship in December. Check out the calendar:
- Round 1 – April 25 (GR Supra ’20) – WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca
- Round 2 – May 23 (GR Yaris) – Fuji International Speedway
- Round 3 – May 30 (SF19) – Suzuki Circuit
- Round 4 – June 6 (2000GT) – The Nurburgring
- Round 5 – July 4 (GR Supra RC) – Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace
- Round 6 – July 18 (GR Yaris) – Sardinia
- Round 7 – August 22 (GR 86) – Mount Panorama
- Final Round – TBD
