Focusing on providing an excellent power-to-weight ratio rather than outright power, the RS 660 features a slender new structure with a frame and swingarm both made of die-cast aluminum. The engine itself is a load-bearing element contributing even further to its compact yet lightweight structure. The chassis is completed by adjustable Kayaba forks with 41-mm upside-down stems, Brembo brakes with steel discs, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II tires (120/70 ZR 17 front, 180/55 ZR 17 back).
Powering the Aprilia RS 660 is a new 660-cc parallel-twin cylinder engine with 100 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 67 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm. For less experienced riders, a 95 horsepower version is also available. The horsepower cap can be disabled electronically.
The RS 660 is also the most complete in terms of electronic systems. Aside from Ride-by-Wire, it has a six-axis inertial platform which gives it anti-lock brakes, traction control (ATC), cruise control (ACC), and even an adjustable wheelie control (AWC). It also has five Riding Modes—three designed for road use and two for on-track use.
Style-wise, the RS 660 features styling cues typical of Aprilia sport bikes such as the triple LED headlight assembly with daytime running lights and cornering lights. The double fairing design with integrated aero features is a testament to their commitment to aerodynamic research. And since, this bike is also designed to be used on track, elements such as the mirrors, passenger foot rest, and license plate holders can be removed easily.
