Last year, General Motors gave the world the re-born Hummer as a 1,000-horsepower electric pickup truck. Now, it has expanded the line-up with the addition of the Hummer EV SUV set for a showroom debut in 2024.
Also driven by GM’s Ultium platform which will also underpin Honda EV models for the U.S., the GMC Hummer EV SUV comes with up to 830 horsepower, and get this, 15,591 Nm of torque (that’s not a typo) thanks to its three electric motors. Zero to 100 km/h is set at about 3.5 seconds, while range can go up to 483 kilometers.
Despite its size, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV uses its electric motors cleverly. It gives it a relatively compact 5.4-meter turning radius, while also giving it the ability to crab walk meaning it can drive diagonally.
Design-wise, the re-born GMC Hummer EV SUV stays true to the original gas-guzzling Hummer’s aesthetics with its rugged looks, short overhangs, and tailgate-mounted full-sized spare tire.
Unlike its pickup sibling, GM is offering the 2024 Hummer EV SUV with a new Extreme Off-Road version which, straight off the showroom, offers 18-inch wheels with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, underbody armor and rock sliders, front (eLocker) and rear (virtual) lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and an underbody camera.
For those who want something a bit more on-road, the GMC Hummer EV SUV’s 3,218 mm wheelbase means a roomy interior for five, and has standard features such as the glass “Infinity Roof” with removable sky panels, and a rear drop glass. It will also offer GM’s Super Cruise—a driver-assist technology that offers hands-free driving on more than 322,000 kilometers of roads. This includes the ability to change lanes as well.
Production of the GMC Hummer EV SUV starts in 2023, and pricing tops out at USD 110,595 (around P 5.3 million).
