Volkswagen’s future may be electric, but it doesn’t mean there’s no room for high-performance. Case in point is the brand’s new GTX range—their new variant name for sportier versions of its all-electric vehicles. The first one to receive the hotted up treatment is the ID.4.
Revealed as the ID.4 GTX, it packs a dual-motor setup driving all four wheels (a first for the ID. range). Together, the motors generate 299 horsepower (maximum of 30 seconds). It can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.2 seconds, 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, and achieve an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h. It can also effortlessly climb inclines of 37.5 percent.
Like Volkswagen’s legendary GTI models before it, the GTX gains unique design cues. In this case, the ID.4 GTX gets new bumpers and a new 3D LED rear light cluster that forms an X. In addition, the body color is more dominant, while the roof and rear spoiler is colored black.
Inside, the upper section of the dashboard and leatherette inserts are colored dark blue (X-Blue, Volkswagen calls it), while red stitching appears on the seats. The GTX logo is prominently on display on the steering wheel, sill panels, and at the top of the front seat backrests.
The ID.4 GTX will launch in Europe by this year, and it will command a hefty 50,415 euros (P 2.99 million) price tag.
