It sounds like Volkswagen is trying to make amends for that “Voltswagen” fiasco by teasing their next family of high-performance vehicles.
With their serious push towards electrification, VW has taken inspiration from its legendary GTI (and by extension, GTE) nameplates to come up with this: the GTX. And the first model to benefit from a high-performance treatment? The ID.4 all-electric crossover.
The German automaker will be revealing everything on April 28, but they have confirmed that the GTX will come with standard all-wheel drive thanks to an additional electric motor driving the front axle. Though it still defaults to rear-wheel drive, it can switch on the front motor in mere milliseconds when performance or strong traction are required.
Aside from the added motor, Volkswagen promises sporty design details and a unique lighting signature to tell the GTX models from the rest of the line-up.
