The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) posted healthy numbers last May with its members selling 22,062 units—a 24 percent increase compared to April 2021 figures.
CAMPI attributes the increase in numbers to the government’s decision to relax the quarantine restrictions in the so-called NCR-plus bubble. Moreover, the largest automotive group, by volume, seems to have also brushed off the effects of the DTI’s safeguard bond and the tightening of auto loans by banks.
Year-to-date, CAMPI members has sold 110,217 units—a 58 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Passenger Cars (PC) showed a 36 percent increase month-on-month, selling 7,599 units compared to April’s 5,570.
Meanwhile, Commercial Vehicles (CV) sold 14,463 units in May, a 17 percent jump from April’s 12,273 units.
In terms of ranking, the top three for May 2021 held steady with Toyota Motor Philippines (47.65 percent) taking the top spot followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (15.36 percent), and Ford Philippines (7.48 percent). Suzuki Philippines and Nissan Philippines completes the top five.

DeleteThe ranking is quite logical in total numbers considering that Toyota has the highest quantity of models offered. However, it would have made more sense if the rankings are limited to certain categories such as SUV or sedan or crossover, etc. and it is likely that the ranking of each company will be substantially different. I wouldn't be surprised in the first now becomes last.
