The Nissan GT-R NISMO is a bit of an enigma. The car itself is about 14 years old, and yet, it’s still enjoying brisk sales, at least when the NISMO version is concerned.
The R35 GT-R was first launched way back in 2007 as a MY2009 car, while the first NISMO tuned version came out in 2013. Two major updates to the NISMO variant, and eight years later, Nissan says they’ve managed to snag 171 pre-orders in Japan for the 2022 GT-R NISMO—and this was after just two months of pre-selling.
Putting that into perspective, that number exceeds the total number of GT-R NISMO units sold last year at 131 units.
Nissan revealed that out of the 171 orders, close to all of them (99 percent) come in the “Special Edition” configuration. This version can be identified by the exposed carbon fiber hood and unique black-painted 20-inch wheels with red accents.
In terms of body color, the new NISMO Stealth Gray, a color also available in the 2021 Navara PRO-4X is by far the most favorite. It accounts to 50 percent of total pre-orders.
The 2022 Nissan GT-R NISMO has yet to be released in Japan. It will go on sale there in October of this year.
