Breaking with tradition, Subaru has released the first official images of the refreshed 2022 Forester compact SUV before its official unveil in two months time.
Packing a new front face, the “big minor change” Forester adopts the company’s “Bolder” design language. The new LED headlights, larger grille, and re-shaped bumpers are joined by bigger fog lamp housing, and newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. All in all, the new look gives it a more powerful, SUV-like stance.
Three new colors join the palette too: Cascade Green Silica, Autumn Green Metallic, and Brilliant Bronze Metallic.
In terms of driving, Subaru has yet to reveal if they have made any changes to the powertrain, but in terms of basic specs, they remain the same.
In Japan, they will offer a 2.0-liter DOHC hybrid (FB20 e-Boxer) or a 1.8-liter direct-injected turbo (CB18). The hybrid offers 145 horsepower and 188 Nm of torque from its lean-burning flat-4 coupled to a 13.6 horsepower, 6.6 Nm of torque electric motor (MA1). Meanwhile, the force-fed engine has 177 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Both versions are coupled to a Lineartronic CVT, but the e-Boxer version now has e-active shift control.
Suspension-wise, Subaru has said that they are going for “suppleness and sportiness at the highest level” with this update.
Inside, the 2022 Forester will start to cater to a wider set of audiences. With that, they will offer selections such as waterproof polyurethane, genuine nappa leather, and ultrasuede seating.
In terms of safety performance, the 2022 Forester comes with the next-generation EyeSight. It has a wider field of vision and together with a software improvement, offers safer driving on a wider range of situations.
The refreshed 2022 Forester will debut in the Japanese market on August 1, 2021. While here’s hoping that it will arrive in the Philippines within the year, this model is not part of Motor Image’s vehicle roll out plan which they revealed last year.
I do hope they bring in the bigger 2.5L engine. The current engine is too small for such a large vehicle.

ReplyDeleteThe 1.8-liter DIT is the replacement to the 2.5-liter NA. We still don't know if it'll be offered for PH market. Sadly, the 2.5-liter was never offered for order for us. It was pretty much reserved for North America. Hopefully they do throw us a bone though.

DeleteNothing to excite about. Subaru's design lacks imagination. It looks staid and boring. And that goes all across their different models.
