Ford is expanding its pickup family with a new compact truck called the Maverick, and we won’t have to wait long for its global unveil which is set on June 8 in the U.S.
The Maverick nameplate isn’t new for Ford—it once adorned a compact car in the 1970s. For its re-birth though, it will adorn the tailgate of a small pickup truck slotting below the Ranger in terms of size.
Officially, Ford hasn’t revealed much details about the Maverick, but think of it as a direct competitor to the Hyundai Santa Cruz. With that, the unibody truck (likely sharing its bones with the Bronco Sport) is not just designed to carry “stuff” (as the carmaker calls it in their teaser), but remain maneuverable and easy to live with in urban confines.
In terms of design, it looks to infuse some of its truck design cues such as the Maverick name embossed on its tailgate as well as the faux front fender vents. More importantly, the teaser shows that it can fit through a typical American covered garage (2.1 meters vertical clearance) with room to spare.
Confirmed though is that actress Gabrielle Union will help launch the all-new truck with the event happening on her Instagram and TikTok channels (as well as Ford’s social media accounts).
It is not known yet whether Ford will offer the Maverick outside the North American market, so everyone will have to wait for details during its global reveal.
I hope Ford brings this to PH. Whilst the Ranger is very good, not all require such a large pickup truck.
