All-New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander To Debut Next-Generation Plug-In Hybrid System

The all-new Outlander has been a runaway success for Mitsubishi helping them boost their sales by a staggering 65 percent in North America and Southeast Asia. It has also helped them attract higher-income customers—customers who wouldn’t otherwise look at Mitsubishi.

Now, Mitsubishi is about to launch the next-generation Outlander PHEV which will debut a “new-generation PHEV system” by the second half of the current fiscal year.

Mitsubishi hasn’t given much details on the new PHEV powertrain, but they did say that it comes with an improved motor output and increased battery capacity over the current model. Moreover, it’s been optimized for its new platform shared with Nissan and with that is able to accommodate seven passengers across three rows.

Since the launch of the Outlander PHEV, it has been sold in more than 60 countries around the world and is a leader in the PHEV category.

In addition to the benefits of PHEVs, including environmental friendliness and low reliance on charging infrastructure, the twin-motor 4WD PHEV system delivers driving performance with the company's unique “Mitsubishi Motors-ness,” or what defines MMC's vehicles: a combination of safety, security (peace of mind), and comfort. In its Environmental Targets 2030, MMC has set a goal of a 40 percent reduction in the CO2 emissions of its new cars by 2030 through leveraging EVs—with PHEVs as the centerpiece — to help create a sustainable society.
