All-New 2022 Subaru WRX Set For August 19 World Debut (w/ Video)

Mark your calendars as the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX is set for a global debut on August 19 at the New York International Auto Show.

In anticipation, Subaru has released yet another teaser photo (above) and a teaser video (below). In it, you can see our best look yet at the rally-bred sports sedan which also happens to be celebrating its 30th birthday this year.

In particular, the video shows an orange sedan power sliding through the desert accompanied by the sounds of a boxer engine. Although Subaru has kept a lot of details out of frame, if you’re quick enough you’ll notice certain design cues.

For starters, you see triangular taillights similar to the just-launched 2022 BRZ. It also appears to get vents in the rear bumper as well as a duckbill spoiler. Given that the Subaru WRX shares a lot in common with the Levorg, it’s likely to gain front styling as Subaru’s turbocharged wagon.

What’s currently known is that the Subaru WRX will finally migrate to the Subaru Global Platform. What isn’t known is the engine although most point to the new FA24F turbocharged 2.4-liter engine to be the most likely power source. It makes 260 horsepower in the Ascent, so expect Subaru to extract additional horses from that setup. The transmission will likely still offer a 6-speed manual alongside a CVT.
