MMDA Thinks About Bringing Back Number Coding

Just one bad morning rush hour traffic has the MMDA thinking of bringing back the United Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or better known as “number coding.”

In an interview with ABS-CBN, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos shared that EDSA is already starting to hit its 388,000-vehicle capacity despite the ongoing pandemic. In fact, on some days, the number has already reached as high as 399,000. This has the MMDA thinking of bringing back the number coding scheme.

Abalos expects the number to go up by as much as 20,000 more given that SMC Infrastructure has started to charge for the use of Skyway Stage 3. For seven months, the use of the elevated toll road that connects the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) with the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) was free to the public.

  1. Just bring it back already. Those who travel nearby places may use their bicycles or motorcycles.

    1. Yeah. But not every car owner is as rich as you and me. And not everyone have garages that can accommodate multiple cars.

  3. The number coding scheme was the cheap-a** solution to traffic by the ramos administration. Initially planned to be temporary until it became a curse to car owners.
