The 2022 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 Is Retro-Futuristic

Lamborghini has now shown off, in full, the all-new 2022 Countach. Officially named the Countach LPI 800-4, it’s a futuristic limited-edition model that pays homage to the Countach’s iconic status as a revolutionary design, while also imbuing it with modern technology.

Considered as the “patriarch of Lamborghini design” the all-new Countach points to the future with its electrified V12 engine. Retaining the normally-aspirated V12 engine but mated to an electric motor, it makes a combined 800 horsepower (780 from the gas engine, 34 from the electric motor). With a permanent all-wheel drive system, it does the 100 km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds, 200 km/h in 8.6 seconds, and top speed is pegged at 355 km/h.

More than just the design, the Countach is instantly recognizable—a testament perhaps to the lasting impact of the original design from the 1980s.

The Countach’s distinctive silhouette with the essential line running from front to rear, sharp angles and lines, of course the wedge shape has all been retained. Taking inspiration from the Quattrovalvole edition, the 2022 Countach has a low, rectangular grille and headlights and wheel arches with a hexagonal shape.

There is no fixed rear wing, and the air scoops are integrated in the shoulders of the car embellished with the slatted “gills.” While at the back, the “hexagonita” taillights echo the three-unit rear light cluster of the original, while also sporting quad exhaust tailpipes with a carbon fiber diffuser. And of course, entry and exit into the cabin is provided by the famous scissor doors. It comes fitted with front 20-inch and rear 21-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and carbon ceramic disc brakes.

Inside, the interior also takes design cues from the original Countach within the context of a modern car. The classic and luxurious leather features geometric stitching on the specially designed comfort seats and dashboard, sporting a square motif referencing the 1970s design. An 8.4-inch HDMI center touchscreen unique to the LPI 800-4 manages car controls including Connectivity and Apple CarPlay. It also includes a unique button entitled ‘Stile’ (Design): pressed, it explains the Countach design philosophy to its privileged audience.

The Countach LPI 800-4 has a production run of just 112 units—a number denoting the original Countach’s internal project name (LP 112). Deliveries to owners worldwide start from the first quarter of 2022.
