2022 Nissan Terra Makes Regional Debut

After its global debut as the X-Terra last year, the refreshed 2022 Nissan Terra is inching its way to the Philippines as it has finally made its regional debut in Thailand. Featuring enhancements across the board from design to safety to infotainment, it is, according to Nissan, a product of their in-depth research on ASEAN families.

The new Terra was developed in line with Nissan's “unbreakable” vehicle frame design philosophy that combines durability with sleek and modern design expression. The C-shaped quad LED signature headlamps, have evolved and been interpreted in a new way with four quad LEDs on each side, increasing brightness by up to 34 percent. The rear of the vehicle was redesigned from roof spoiler to its lower bumper, with chrome and silver accents adding a hint of luxury and complimenting the appearance of its 18-inch alloy rims.

The changes continue inside with a stylish and spacious interior cabin. A new D-shaped steering wheel greets the driver, while the revised seats offers better back support on long journeys. The space between the passenger compartment and rear luggage is fully adjustable through a special design that allows for the second and third rows to be reconfigured into a variety of styles. These include theater style seating, using the auto tumble seats that automatically fold by pressing its one-touch  fold and tumble remote switch on the center console. There is also an electronic tailgate with an auto lift gate sensor for added convenience. Two special interior colors are available: black/burgundy and black/beige.

The Terra also gets an 8-speaker Bose sound system—the first in its class, and together with front and side Acoustic Glass, it promises quality sound on any journey. The infotainment system is also updated with a 9-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, rear passengers can enjoy entertainment via an overhead 11-inch screen with HDMI connectivity. All occupants can also simultaneously charge multiple devices with five USB ports (Type A and C) located in the front and center console, second, and third rows. For the first time the new Terra has wireless charging technology installed in the front console that provides charging power of up to 15 watts.

In Thailand, the new Terra gets a 2.3-liter twin-turbo YS23DDTT diesel engine. This gives it 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque for, according to Nissan, the best acceleration in its class. The sole gearbox is a 7-speed automatic. Meanwhile, the Philippines is expected to continue with the YD25DDTi, but because it makes similar numbers—190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque—expect the same sort of performance.

Safety has always been a strong point for the Terra, and for 2022, it continues with the 360 Degree Safety Shield. Intelligent Emergency Braking system determines if there is a risk of colliding with a vehicle in front, and will alert the driver and apply light braking. If the driver does not decelerate and collision risk increases, the system will apply automatic emergency braking immediately.

Added security is offered with Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Around View Monitor (equipped with Moving Object Detection), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Intelligent Driver Alertness serves as another layer of precaution, especially helpful during long distance journeys.

In Thailand, the 2022 Terra is priced starting at THB 1,199,000 (P 1.82 million) going up to THB 1,499,000 (P 2.278 million). With Nissan Philippines already teasing the Terra, it will arrive here, undoubtedly, in the next few months. In fact, slots for test drives have already opened.
