Alfa Romeo To Become All-Electric Brand By 2027

Alfa Romeo is the latest brand to commit to becoming fully electric. Their timeline? Starting in 2027 for Europe, North America, and even China.

Aside from Alfa Romeo, four of Stellantis’s 12 brands will also become all-electric—Fiat, DS, Lancia, and Opel.

French DS will launch only full-electric cars starting in 2024 while also continuing to sell vehicles with internal combustion engines, while Italian Lancia will launch only full-electric cars starting in 2026.

Lancia, Alfa Romeo, and DS make up Stellantis’s premium cluster, and they are already working together on future models and industrial synergies.

Stellantis’s announcement comes as automakers in Europe are jostling to position themselves as the industry shifts to electric ahead of the European Union’s effective ban on internal combustion engines by 2035 by requiring all new cars sold from then to produce zero emissions.

Over the next 24 months, Stellantis is expected to unveil no less than 11 pure electric vehicles, adding to the existing 11 BEVs currently on sale. By 2025, every new model from the group will have either a plug-in hybrid or full electric option.

Stellantis’s new full-electric models include three from Citroen; two each from Peugeot, Maserati and Fiat’s vans unit; and one each from Jeep and Opel/Vauxhall.

There will also be 10 plug-in hybrid launches: three from Peugeot, two from Opel/Vauxhall, and one each from Alfa Romeo, Citroen, DS, Dodge and Jeep.
