Gazoo Racing Just Came Up With This Sportscar Inspired Toyota Hilux GR Sport

If off-road style isn’t for you, Toyota is actually launching what could be the world’s first factory-lowered pickup truck with the Hilux GR Sport 2WD.

Unlike the rally-inspired Hilux GR Sport 4WD, the Hilux GR Sport 2WD takes inspiration from Toyota’s GT (grand touring) racing efforts, and with that, engineers have opted to lower its suspension by a considerable 23 mm thanks to new monotube shock absorbers. This drops the ground clearance to 164 mm and overall height to 1,730 mm. The trade off though is better high-speed stability and car-like comfort.

Like the 4WD Hilux GR Sport though, the Hilux GR Sport 2WD gets a wrap-around aero kit, high-gloss black accents, a shark’s fin antenna, and of course, various Gazoo Racing emblems. 17-inch alloy wheels with passenger car tires (they’re Bridgestone Turanzas measuring 215/55R17s) and side stickers complete the exterior changes.

Inside, the Hilux GR Sport 2WD receives the same sporty treatment as the 4WD version with perforated suede and leather seats, aluminum pedals, smoked silver and metallic black accents, and a Gazoo Racing steering wheel.

In a pleasant surprise, Toyota engineers weren’t satisfied with just lowering the suspension. Instead, they’ve opted to plop in the very same 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine found in the 4x4 models. With that, this rear-wheel drive truck gets 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

With Filipinos opting for more off-road-based setups, it’s unlikely that Toyota Motor Philippines will offer this low-riding variant of the Hilux GR Sport. In Thailand, however, it’s offered at THB 889,000 or around P 1.353 million.
