Even smaller car manufacturers such as Mazda aren’t immune to the global parts shortage anymore.
For a while, it looked like the Hiroshima-based carmaker could avoid a full-on production stoppage by simply reducing their outputs. Well, no more.
In a situation that echoes every other global automaker from Toyota to Ford to Mercedes-Benz, Mazda will have to suspend production at both its Hiroshima and Hofu plants for a total of two days starting August 30, 2021. In the past, Mazda had stopped production but only at a single line.
This will affect the production of pretty much the entire Mazda line-up since the Hiroshima Plant produces the Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-30, CX-5 CX-8, CX-9, and MX-5, while the Hofu Plant produces the Mazda2, Mazda3, CX-3, Mazda6, and CX-5.
The production stoppage is due to difficulties regarding parts procurement from suppliers located in both China and Southeast Asia said Mazda in a statement. Production is expected to re-start on September 1.
Despite the production stoppage, Mazda is working to minimize the impact on sales, including for export markets such as the Philippines.
