New York International Auto Show Canceled Anew

Proof that the pandemic is far from over. The New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) has been canceled once again after state and local officials there announced new safety measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

With a little more than two weeks to go, organizers decided to cancel this year’s show. This marks the second straight year in which the NYIAS has been canceled. They said that the show is expected to return in April 2022.

The Chicago Auto Show was held last month without issue, but cases have been rising recently because of the delta variant of the virus. The Detroit auto show was scrapped in favor of a smaller, outdoor event to be held this year.

The New York International Auto Show was supposed to be the venue for the launch of vehicles such as the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX. Those global reveals will now likely take place virtually.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that proof of vaccination would be required for indoor activities in the city, including restaurants.
