Subaru PH Starts Sale Of All-New 2022 Outback (w/ Specs)

Motor Image Pilipinas, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines is now officially starting sales of the all-new 2022 Outback. This comes about a month after reservation books were opened.

The sixth-generation Outback is now built on the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) and is powered by a new 2.5-liter normally-aspirated boxer engine. For the Philippine market, this powerplant generates 188 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque (higher than previously reported). Mated to a Lineartronic CVT, it’s good for a 0 to 100 km/h time of 9.6 seconds.

With its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) and ample ground clearance, it can take on rough journeys smoothly. It’s also styled to look rugged with its sturdy bumper guards, heavy-duty crossbar roof rails, and robust body claddings.

Compared to the previous Outback, the all-new model is longer (+50 mm) and wider (+35 mm). Together with improvements in packaging, it’s more spacious than ever. The cargo hold can fit 537 liters—10 more than before, while a hands-free power tailgate makes loading and unloading items much easier.

The Outback’s new Subaru Global Platform integrates a full inner frame structure and uses high-strength steel. Hand-in-hand with its 213 mm of ground clearance, it offers the confidence and capability to smoothen the roughest journeys.

Inside, the 2022 Outback features standard Nappa leather seats—a first for Subaru along with a 11.6-inch tablet style infotainment screen. Featuring standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it also has a 576-watt Harman/Kardon 11-speaker system.

The centerpiece of the Outback though is cutting-edge safety. It comes with Driver Monitoring System or DMS. Using an infrared camera and facial recognition, it monitors the driver’s eyes and alerts the driver should he or she be looking away from the road when driving. It also remembers the unique settings of up to five drivers for their seat and door mirror positions, climate control, and meter displays, and automatically adjusts them for each driver upon entering the car, features typically found only in luxury models.

Moreover, it has EyeSight 4.0—the newest iteration of Subaru’s award-winning active driver assist system. With a faster processor and a wider angle lens, it’s now capable of scanning potential collisions through intersections. It also unlocks Autonomous Emergency Steering (it also works with the blind spot indicators), Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, and Lane Departure Prevention. This is on top of 8 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, and reverse automatic braking.

The all-new Subaru Outback comes in one variant—the Outback 2.5i-Touring EyeSight with a suggested retail price of P 2,380,000. It comes in seven colors: Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, Brilliant Bronze Metallic, Crimson Red Pearl, Dark Blue Pearl, and Storm Gray Metallic.

All customers who reserve their unit by September 30, 2021, shall be entitled to an exclusive P 50,000 introductory discount. The first batch of Outback owners shall also receive a limited-edition Bynd Artisan leather pouch.

“This car is really about giving you a refined, premium driving experience in a feature-packed model at an unbeatable price for you to go create your best memories with your loved ones. Fans of the Outback will know that it is reliable and always there for you, taking you on your best journeys, time after time. It has the latest best-in-class safety features and spaciousness usually found in luxury European brands. It will keep you and your loved ones safe and comfortable. It is stable, versatile, and practical, with a touch of luxury. It is a well-equipped high-end car, without the high-end price tag.” said Mr. Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong International Ltd., which owns Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc.
