Ford has announced that production stoppage of its F-150 pickup trucks will extend beyond the initial two-week projection.
In a company memo, Ford said production at its Kansas City Assembly plant will remain down the week of September 6. Truck production there has been idled for the past two weeks already. Meanwhile, Ford’s other F-150 plant in Dearborn will remain on one shift the week of September 6 after falling to one shift this week.
The Kentucky assembly plant, meanwhile, where the Super Duty, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs are made, will fall to two shifts the weeks of September 6 and September 13.
Ford informed employees that the extended downtime surrounding the F-150 and the scaling back production of some of its largest models is once again due to the ongoing semiconductor shortage.
The continued work stoppage at several Ford plants in the US might have some implications to the launch timeline or unit availability of the F-150 Diesel and all-new Explorer—two models which Ford Philippines just announced. Ford dealers though are already taking in reservations so it would be best to fall in line already to ensure allocation.
