Honda City Hatchback Takes Leadership In Philippine B-Segment Hatchback Sales

Honda Cars Philippines announces that its all-new City Hatchback has now become the best-selling B-segment hatchback in the market.

Since its April launch, the City Hatchback showed strong sales, and now it occupies a 75 percent share of the B-segment hatchback category with 189 units sold in about six months.

According to Honda, the City Hatchback’s versatility is one of the many reasons for customers going for this model. Thanks to its Ultra Seats (ULTR), it can easily adapt to a wide variety of the owner’s lifestyle and cargo needs. Notable interior features such as the One Push with Smart Entry and Remote Engine Start System, 8-inch Advanced Touchscreen Display Audio with Apple CarPlay Android Auto & WebLink connectivity also add to the comfort, convenience, and ease of access for the customers. Other reasons include the strong equity of the Honda brand, as well as its sporty and stylish exterior RS design.

Customers have also shared their positive feedback on the model’s driving capabilities, as well as its power and fuel efficiency. Its 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine produces a class-leading 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Furthermore, it can achieve up to 25 km/L based on a fuel eco run done in partnership with the Automobile Association of the Philippines or AAP.

Lastly, aside from its versatile interior design, driving performance, and fuel efficiency, customers have also noted their better peace of mind on the road. The Hatchback comes standard with six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Speed Sensing Auto Door Locks, and Multi-view Rear Camera with guidelines. On top of the model’s safety features, the All-New City Hatchback scored a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP (ASEAN New Car Assessment Program).

Priced at P 1.115 million, the City Hatchback comes with all-in low downpayment, low monthly amortization, flexible payment terms, free insurance package, and other financing options.

“We are truly delighted to see the City Hatchback soar in the hatchback segment since its introduction in the country. Furthermore, we would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to our customers for their continuous support to Honda throughout the years. The positive acceptance of the Filipino market on the model means a lot for us and we would like to reaffirm our promise to continuously serve the country with quality products and excellent customer service.” Said Mr. Masahiko Nakamura, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) president.

  2. This article is a bit 'funny' because this is a very small segment with a total of 252 cars sold which is computed from the 75% Honda City or 189 units. Would be interesting to indicate which are the competing models. Nonetheless, congrats to Honda for a competitive product.

    2. I think the only B-segment hatch locally are this City, Mazda 2 and Yaris. so good job being the #1 among 3 contenders :)

    3. There's the Yaris, Mazda2, Accent HB, and Rio officially.

    4. Does the VW Santana count too? or that's considered a wagon?

    5. Hmmmm...good question. I'd lump it as part of the hatchbacks...but this is assuming VW Philippines splits the sales between the sedan and wagon/hatch. They might lump them together.

    6. Isn't the accent HB discontinued for this generation since we're sourcing our units in India?

    7. For a time, it the previous HB and the current Accent sedan were sold side-by-side, but yes, it's now discontinued officially.

The Accent is actually assembled locally already. We don't source it from India which happen to get an updated look:
