All-New 2022 Honda Civic A Surprise Hit With Yuppies And Old People

Honda is grappling with supply issues surrounding its all-new Civic. This is something the carmaker revealed after the 2022 model managed to exceed its own sales expectations in Japan about three-fold.

After a month since Honda released the all-new, 11th generation Civic in Japan, sales there of the compact car reached 3,000 units as of October 7. This is three times the expected 1,000-unit per month target set by the carmaker.

However, because of the on-going global parts shortage, Honda says customer deliveries have been delayed. That said, they are “striving to minimize the impact on production.”

Honda also revealed some interest facts on customers of the all-new Civic.

For example, key features cited by customers in purchasing the 2022 Civic included its sporty, high-quality driving feel, the advanced Honda SENSING driver assist system, the 10.2-inch full graphic meter and Bose sound system, and the ability to choose between a CVT or a 6-speed manual across all grades. True enough, 64.9 percent went for the CVT, but 35.1 percent still went for the 6-speed manual.

Unsurprisingly, 23.9 percent of Civic buyers are those in the 20s, but interestingly, the second biggest demographic are those in their 50s (22.2 percent). The reason behind this, according to Honda, is down to customers who are replacing their previous Civic with the all-new model.

When it comes to colors, Platinum White Pearl is hands down the favorite (33.5 percent), followed by Crystal Black Pearl (23.7 percent) and Premium Crystal Red Metallic (15.6 percent).

The global semi-conductor shortage notwithstanding, the all-new Civic remains on track for a Philippine launch before the end of the year. Sources say it’s poised to arrive by the third week of November.
