Can Nissan PH Lead The Sub-Compact Segment With The Turbocharged 2022 Almera? (w/ Full Specs)

The all-new Nissan Almera sure took its sweet time coming to the Philippines, but what an arrival it is. After its global launch two years ago and being spied testing on Philippine roads early this year, Nissan’s sub-compact sedan is now poised to carve a bigger share of the segment pie with its new sportier style, turbocharged engines, and wealth of smart technology features.

Immediately, the change between generations is noticeable. Gone is the jellybean shape and in comes a sharper, sportier-looking shape using Nissan’s Emotional Geometry design language. The new Almera now rocks the trademark V-motion grille, and boomerang-shaped headlights and taillights. Also, it features design cues found in other Nissan sedans such as the kick-up C-pillars and floating roof.

Highlighting the sleek new design is a range of six colors: Cayenne Red, Premium Corona Orange, Galaxy Black, Gun Metallic, Brilliant Silver, and Pearl White.

Despite the re-design, the 2022 Almera retains one of its hallmarks: best-in-class interior space. The decidedly high-tech cabin features a D-cut steering wheel, while the dashboard takes on the Gliding Wing design that gives it a feeling of airiness. For excellent comfort even during long drives, the front seats feature the Zero Gravity design. This reduces pressure on the back, pelvis, and upper body resulting in fatigue-free drives. It also has an available 7-inch advanced driver display and 8-inch infotainment system powered by Nissan Connect.

Powering the all-new Almera is the HRA0 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This produces an output of 100 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 152 Nm of torque (160 Nm for the manual) from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm. CVT variants also come with idle start-stop technology. According to Nissan, this setup allows best-in-class fuel efficiency while ensuring impressive performance.

Standard across the line-up are dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, and Vehicle Dynamics Control with Hill Start Assist. The VE Turbo adds a 360-degree camera with Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Emergency Braking; while the VL Turbo N-Sport goes all in with 6 SRS airbags, Blind Spot Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The 2022 Nissan Almera comes in three grades and four variants:
  • 1.0 EL Turbo MT – P 728,000
  • 1.0 VE Turbo MT – P 938,000*
  • 1.0 VE Turbo CVT – P 998,000*
  • 1.0 VL Turbo N-Sport CVT – P 1,098,000*
  • * P 15,000 additional for the Pearl White variant
The VE and VL N-Sport variants come with a 5-year / 150,000-kilometer warranty, while the EL comes with a 3-year / 100,000-kilometer warranty.

  1. 35 liters gas tank? Parang maliit no matter if it can do more than 20km per liter. Sayang.

    1. Weird right? It's like a Wigo or Brio fuel tank size rather than a Vios or City.

  2. I hope Nissan Philippines adds the standard Almera VL variant with the rims same in the Malaysian-spec Almera VLP and VLT.

  3. I hope to see a review of the m/t variant. I wonder if it's a more relaxing drive than competitors m/t since you get maximum torque at lower rpm range.

  4. 729K for the entry level turbo? Honda PH is scratching its head now. You can't sell a car with a turbo engine for less than 1.5 Million. LOL.

  5. Let's see how the VE CVT will be matched with Honda City V and Mazda 2 Sedan. For the price of 998k wow! The Geely Coolray will be a better choice for this price range hehe (still it depends on personal preference though). The design is very sporty in front, with Sylphy similar design at the back portion, nice!

  6. Turbo on ALL variants? Nissan Intelligent Mobility for the TOTL? (Given that such safety systems are very expensive)

What the heck, it's mindblowing for the price. What a master stroke for Nissan. Vios and City better step up their game.

    Mirage G4 and Ciaz? Nevermind.

    1. So true. Nissan's safety features are a far cry from the previous Almera.

  7. Better buy Geely CoolRay Turbocharged comfort variant for only 925K discounted price or the Ssangyong Tivoli Turbodiesel Crossover for 730t only.

  8. If budget is the major concern to get from point a to b then maybe. Well this is battle of Chinese (CoolRay), Korean (Ssangyong) and Japanese (Nissan) products. Ssangyong is not a popular Korean brand and to some Chinese made cars remains inferior. So there is room for a 1M TOTL Almera.

  9. Looks great, specs are class-above, just that it uses the unreliable JATCO CVT which has been the subject of numerous class-action lawsuits in the US.

  10. Features missing in the local TOTL N-Sport model that are standard on the TOTL models found in our neighboring Asean countries: leather-covered front armrest, cruise control, better-looking 2-tone rims, gloss black ducktail trunk spoiler, glossblack surrounds around the tail lights, rear backing sensors, side skirts, rear sporty lower diffuser w/ carbon fiber pattern rear bumper & front skirt.
