Honda has an interesting EV strategy—one that’s multiprong in its execution. For Europe and Japan, they’ve started out with the Honda E while for North America, they’re cooperating with GM. And now for China, they’ve just revealed their new e:N sub-brand.
The e:N sub-brand will be part of Honda’s commitment to electrify their entire line-up there by 2030 either by applying hybrid or EV technology. In fact, the Japanese carmaker will no longer introduce any new gasoline-powered models there after 2030.
For the all-electric e:N, Honda will be introducing a whopping 10 new models in the next five years to make their strategy work.
The first set of e:N Series models—the e:NS1 and e:NP1 will go on sale by 2022 through its joint-venture partners, Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda. These two are clearly based on the Honda HR-V.
After that, dedicated EV production plants will be constructed at both JV partners with the aim of starting production in 2024. Future vehicles built at these plants were previewed as concept cars—the e:N SUV, e:N GT, and e:N Coupe.
