Is The Nissan Sylphy e-Power A Worthy Rival To The Toyota Corolla Hybrid?

Two years after the regular combustion engine Sylphy was first introduced in China, Nissan has now given it the e-Power treatment.

Unlike hybrids where both the gasoline engine and electric motors drive the wheels, Nissan’s e-Power is a 100 percent electric motor-driven system. The onboard gasoline merely acts as a generator to keep the battery charged.

Also found in the Note and Kicks, the e-Power system has been a tremendous success for Nissan. It has sold over 500,000 vehicles fitted with the technology and is integral to the company’s goal of electrifying the entirety of its line-up by the 2030s.

In the Sylphy, the e-Power setup produces 136 horsepower and an impressive 300 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, a 72 horsepower 1.2-liter 3-cylinder acts as a power generator. Fuel efficiency is pegged at 25.64 km/L.

The Sylphy e-Power is just the start of Nissan’s plans for the system in China. They plan to roll out a total of six models fitted with e-Power by 2025.

  1. I think Nissan PH should have launched e-Power first rather than a BEV. e-Power is more appropriate in PH where we don't have much charging stations yet.

And it will be a good competiton to the Altis hybrid.
