Spied! Toyota Motor PH Set To Introduce Hilux GR Sport and Fortuner GR Sport This October

Toyota Motor Philippines is growing the Gazoo Racing family this month with the launch of not one but two GR Sport models: the 2022 Hilux GR Sport and the 2022 Fortuner GR Sport. (Editor’s Note: photos have been blurred and cropped at the request of Toyota Motor Philippines).

Snapped with a Philippine conduction sticker, the Hilux GR Sport (you can see the Fortuner GR Sport in the background) is similar to what we’ve already seen in the Thai domestic market.

For the Hilux, it features a unique front grille with the words, “TOYOTA” spelt out (it’s covered with a protective wrap in the photos) and GR emblems (they too are covered in protective wrapping). Compared to the current top-of-the-line Hilux Conquest, the fender flares are now body colored but have a gloss black accent. The same gloss black accent is found on the side mirrors and rear bumpers. Unique 18-inch alloy wheels and a shark’s fin antenna complete the exterior changes.

Inside, the Hilux GR Sport has perforated suede and leather combination seats, smoked silver and metallic black accents, aluminum pedals, and of course, a sports style steering wheel with a red marker at the 12 o’clock. Sadly, based on the interior shots provided, the Philippine-spec Hilux GR Sport won’t come with Toyota Safety Sense.

As for running gear, expect the 2022 Hilux GR Sport to echo the Thai market version. With that, it’ll use the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV good for 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. This is then mated to a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. It should also benefit from better handling (and ride) thanks to new monotube shock absorbers.

As for the Fortuner GR Sport, unfortunately no other photos were provided. But based on what we’ve seen, it’s the same one launched in Thailand with the tweaked front bumper with gloss black exterior accents and a GR emblem on the grille. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the Philippines will gain the 20-inch wheels (for would-be buyers, we hope to be wrong).

Expect to find the same sporty treatment found in the Hilux GR Sport to be present in the Fortuner GR Sport. If the Thai market model is any indication, it’ll get the same suede/leather seats with GR branding, smoked silver accents, and a steering wheel with a red center marker. The center console should also be covered in a carbon fiber pattern.

Like the Hilux GR Sport, the Fortuner GR Sport will use the same 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine with 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It will benefit from better handling and ride thanks to new monotube shock absorbers.

No pricing has been indicated yet, but with Toyota Motor Philippines bumping up both the Hilux and Fortuner’s pricing up for 2022, expect these sporty top-of-the-line trim to reach around P 1.9 million for the Hilux GR Sport and around P 2.5 million for the Fortuner GR Sport.

As for launch timing, sources say it’s poised for an October reveal. Given that the second round of the Toyota Vios Cup is happening on October 16, we’d say that’s an opportune time for these two GR Sport models to make an appearance.

  1. So we're officially getting the thai version of Fortuner GR Sport, not the indo version, based on the picture above.

  3. Whatever cosmetic changes they do - ang tagtag pa rin ng ride. I cant fathom those peeps who buy these crap for 2.4M+ when there are much better diesel crossover alternatives 🤔

    1. To be fair, if all they've known throughout their lives are toyotas then why change? it would look odd in their garage din if they buy another brand.

  4. LOL TOYOTA! SERIOUSLY?
I have not much complaints on Fortuner, but the Hilux? Seriously? At that price for Conquest TOTL, you should have at least put Toyota Safety Sense into it!

Looks like the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max has the better value for your money than this overhyped, overpriced Hilux (and is yet to be updated. C'mon Toyota!)
