Announced for the Australian market and set to arrive there between April to June 2022, the WRX wagon (officially named Sportswagon) will be joined by its sedan stablemate which was just unveiled in the U.S.

Interestingly, the Levorg is already on-sale down under, but Subaru decided to capitalize on the WRX badge to increase brand awareness and sales.

For the Levorg’s transformation to the WRX Sportswagon though, Subaru dropped the 177-horsepower turbocharged 1.8-liter engine in favor of a turbocharged 2.4-liter. Although the carmaker has yet to confirm final outputs, it’ll likely be the same as the U.S. version which makes 271 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.

The WRX sedan will be available in both 6-speed manual and CVT, but the WRX Sportswagon will be exclusively available with two pedals. Do not fret though the decision to give the wagon the automatic means it will get the Subaru EyeSight driver assist tech as standard as well as Drive Mode select with adaptive dampers.

While this announcement is primarily aimed towards Australia audiences for now, this interesting turn of events may have some implications to what’s going to happen elsewhere. One, Subaru may decide to re-badge all Levorgs powered by the turbocharged 2.4-liter into the WRX Sportswagon. Two, they may axe the Levorg nameplate altogether in favor of just using the WRX Sportswagon moniker outside of Japan. Either way, the Levorg has already been confirmed to arrive in the Philippines in the next few months.
