The 2022 Lexus LX 600 Is Without A Doubt Lexus' Flagship SUV

Four months after the global reveal of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300, its more upscale sibling, the Lexus LX has now been uncovered. Totally redesigned from the ground up, the 2022 Lexus LX stands as the brand’s ultimate SUV flagship.

Like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 on which it’s based on, the 2022 Lexus LX switches over to the TNGA GA-F platform. This robust foundation is 20 percent more rigid than the outgoing Lexus LX, while also helping it shed some 200 kilograms. It also features added suspension travel (15 mm more at the front, and 20 mm more at the back) helping it achieve exceptional on- and off-road performance.

Contrary to earlier rumors, the Lexus LX will not be available with a hybrid powertrain just yet. Carrying the LX 600 designation, the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine produces 415 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. This is then mated to a Direct Shift 10-speed automatic.

Giving the Lexus LX the “Lexus Driving Signature,” engineers put in Active Height Control (AHC) along with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). This automatically adjusts the ride height depending on the selected drive mode or transfer case. It also adjusts the vehicle height depending on posture such as pitch and roll. An additional benefit is that the ride height automatically lowers during egress/ingress. The Lexus LX also gains electric power steering (EPS) along with an Electronically Controlled Brake (ECB) system for a more linear pedal feel. Exclusive to the F Sport variant is a Torsen-type Limited Slip Differential. Capping off the Lexus LX’s suite of handling goodies is a set of forged 22-inch alloy wheels—the largest in the Lexus line-up. Other available wheel options are 18- and 20-inches.

Inside, the Lexus LX features the brand’s first dual display setup. This pairs a 12.3-inch upper screen with a 7-inch lower screen. The upper screen shows navigation, audio control, and also serves as the monitor for the parking camera, while the lower screen shows the climate control and vehicle status.

Unique to the Lexus LX is a four-seater Ultra Luxury variant. Giving it a true VIP experience, the rear seats offer a leg room of 1,100 mm. The curved headrests, seatbacks, and cushions have also been designed to offset any lateral G-forces and irregular road surfaces. It also has a rear seat display, sunshades for both the side and quarter windows, reading lights, rear wireless charging, and overhead ceiling vents.

Meanwhile, the F Sport variant—the first for the Lexus LX—goes all sporty with its mesh grille set within a black chrome grille. It also offers uniquely tuned dampers, a Torsen LSD, and tweaks to the steering and AVS.

The 2022 Lexus LX also comes with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5. This combines Pre-Collision Braking with Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Emergency Steering Assist, all-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and intelligent high beams.

The all-new 2022 Lexus LX will be made available first in North America where it goes on sale in the first quarter of next year.
