Geely Targets To Become Top 3 Auto Brand In ASEAN

Geely is targeting to boost its annual global sales to 3.65 million units by 2025, including becoming a Top 3 automotive brand in ASEAN. This was announced by the Chinese carmaker with their Smart Geely 2025 roadmap.

Vital to the ambitious plan is Geely’s new Leishen Power powertrain brand. The highly modular powertrain, which will power upcoming models, will enable them to offer a “one-size fits all” solution for HEV, PHEVs, and range-extended EVs.

More than that, plans are underway for them to release at least five new models all riding on their Sustainable Experience Architecture or SEA. The SEA platform will join the brand’s modular platforms which include the BMA, CMA, and SPA.

Geely will also launch its own self-developed automotive CPU, the SE1000 by early 2022 (pending certification). It will become China’s first vehicle equipped with a 7nm SOC (System on a Chip) architecture. After that, they will go to more complex 5 nm CPUs which will help them meet the requirements for self-driving technology.

Hand-in-hand, Geely has opened up its automotive digital ecosystem to developers. Aside from promising one to two Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) updates, vehicle development will evolve from “manufacturer-led” to “user software and user co-creation led.”

It is very clear that Geely will be leveraging technology to take a leadership role not just in the Chinese automotive industry, but in regions such as Southeast Asia. With these developments, do you think Geely can really become a frontrunner in terms of sales, or is this all just a pipedream?
