The Geely Auto Group is banking on its new global powertrain brand, Leishen Power to bring them to the forefront of engine development. Headlining the intelligent, high-efficiency powertrain brand is a hybrid system called Leishen Hi-X.
Set to be used in Geely’s flagship “Star” series such as the Xing Yue (Tugella) and Xing Rui (Preface) within the next three years, the Leishen Hi-X features an ultra-high thermal efficiency combustion engine with a rate of 43.32 percent. Combined with a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission or DHT, the Chinese brand promises up to 27.7 km/L—a 40 percent reduction in fuel consumption versus their current 1.5TD series engine.
Plans are also in place to utilize the highly modular engine from A- to C-segment models in Hybrid Electric (HEV), Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), and Range Extended Electric (REEV) formats.
The DHE 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine features a combination of supercharging, direct injection, and a Miller cycle to achieve its high fuel efficiency. This is mated to an evolved version of the company’s 7-speed dual clutch automatic with improved efficiency and performance.
The internal combustion engine is just part of the puzzle.
The 3-speed DHT Pro hybrid transmission integrates two electric motors and electronic controllers. The company says the 800-volt motor achieves around 646 horsepower (475 kw) enabling a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3 seconds. Impressive power from a standstill aside, the DHT Pro also improves overtaking speeds, especially between 80 km/h to 120 km/h.
The Leishen Hi-X also benefits from Firmware Over the Air or FOTA updates.
Through Leishen Power, Geely says they will enable their brands to offer the most advanced, most efficient, electrified powertrains available. Furthermore, the one-size fits all development means being able to come up sustainable mobility without sacrificing user experience.
