Mazda Unveils All-New 2022 BT-50 With Standard 3.0-Liter Engine, 5 Years Free Service (w/ Specs)

In a segment dominated by toughness and ruggedness, the all-new 2022 Mazda BT-50 heads towards a different direction by offering elegance and premium style in a pickup truck.

Fusing its trademark Kodo design language, the all-new BT-50 adopts the corporate three-dimensional signature wing extending out to the deep sculpted headlamps. The headlamps themselves have a strong rear-view mirror presence thanks to standard LED lighting (with LED daytime running lights on the top-of-the-line 4x4). Standard fitment on the 4x2 models are silver-colored alloy wheels with highway-terrain (H/T) 255/65R17 tires, while the solitary 4x4 variant features a machine finished brilliant black 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain (A/T) 265/60R18 tires. All models receive a standard bedliner.

In terms of colorway, two specific shades were developed to highlight the BT-50’s muscular exterior: Gun Blue Metallic and Concrete Grey Mica (see accompanying photos). The former features lighter blue highlight areas that play off against the deep, dark blue of the shaded areas, while the latter is a solid, deep color with sparkling aluminum flakes for a more industrial presentation.

Inside, Mazda’s commitment to human-centric design is as prominent as ever, with comfortable and supportive seats made of low-rebound MDI polyurethane material (fabric in the 4x2 and brown leather in the 4x4) that wrap around the body positioned in a wide, horizontally-laid out cabin amplifying the sense of space. Soft-touch paneling, regardless of variant, extends from door-to-door.

The 2022 BT-50 also has features designed for ease-of-use such as a tilt/telescopic steering column, an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with seat warmer, dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents (manual for the 4x2), and a touchscreen-based infotainment system (7-inch in the 4x2 variants, and 9-inch in the 4x4) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 4x4 also gets two additional speakers for a total of eight to the 4x2’s six-speaker system.

Developed in partnership with Isuzu, the all-new BT-50 features a standard 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine across the line-up. It packs 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. Together with a 6-speed automatic and a reduced body weight thanks to the usage of ultra high-strength steel (starting weight of 1,925 kilograms), it results in significant improvements to both performance and fuel economy.

Capability and versatility for a variety of tasks are ensured with a 3,500-kilogram towing capacity and over 1,000-kilogram payload capacity. For water wading capability, the BT-50 retains its class-leading 800-mm figure.

The 4x4 variant also gets a shift-on-the-fly 4x4 system with a standard rear locking differential. This variant also brings cutting-edge safety with its standard advanced driver assist system. Using a pair of  stereoscopic cameras, it gives the BT-50 lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, automatic high beam, and adaptive cruise control. This is on top of the 7 SRS airbags (dual airbags for the 4x2), ABS with EBD, parking sensors (front and rear for the 4x4), reverse camera, and electronic stability control. The 2022 BT-50 is rated 5-stars at the Australasian  New Car Assessment Program or ANCAP.

The 2022 Mazda BT-50 is available in three variants at the following prices:
  • 3.0L 4x2 MT – P 1,390,000
  • 3.0L 4x2 AT – P 1,430,000

  1. Wow! Good pricing. 4x4 is cheaper than its DMax counterpart. It even has the locking rear differential which local Dmax doesn't have. Throw in the 5-yr free service and it seems that this is a better value proposition.

  2. Much better specced and priced than D-Max. 4x2 is not as bare and spartan as the LS-A for not much more while 4x4 BT-50 is cheaper yet has everything the LS-E D-Max has + difflock. The BT-50 even gets the global Isuzu infotainment instead of the unreliable locally sourced AVT headunit in the D-Max (basically, the Mazda BT-50 is more Isuzu than the Isuzu D-Max here in PH LMAO) This is the Isuzu D-Max for smart buyers. But knowing Filipinos, I'm 100% sure Isuzu will still sell more than Mazda, which is honestly good for the BT-50 buyers. A bit more exclusivity yet with all the spare parts from its hot-selling twin.

    1. Plus 5 years free PMS. But then again Pick up buyers are usually from provinces so they won't entertain this Mazda version of the D-Max.

    2. 100% agree parang medyo overprice ng konti so dmax for less features sa 4x4 variants. Really dig the OE Headunit vs Dmax's local AVT problematic head units pero in the end maganda collaboration isuzu and mazda. Well done

  3. Isuzu is having difficulty moving D-Max and MU-X units due to global chip shortage. Since this BT-50 is built in the same Thai factory, I predict the same might happen for the BT-50.

Also heated seats... ventilated cooled seats would have been preferable, but this shows how not underequipped the BT-50 is compared to global models and its twin here in PH. Well done Mazda.

    1. I asked that question during the press con...supplies will trickle in. They expect to be able to cover demand at least until December. Mazda is hoping that production will ramp up come 2022.

As for heated seats...yeah, ventilated seats are a better option, but Isuzu never offered ventilated seats as an option for the D-MAX, I think.

    2. Any info on why some manufacturers keep on offering heated seats in our country? Is it only because we are sourcing the models from countries that need it? (S. Korea or Aus).

  4. I think this BT-50 is better than the high-end D-Max trims in terms of Features and Safety.

  5. The BT-50 has better Design and looks more premium in/out than the Dmax And it priced wisely by its local distributor. A worthy contender in the hotly contested Truck war.
