How’s this for being anticlimatic. Just four days before its official global unveil in Indonesia, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation themselves have leaked the refreshed 2022 Xpander. This comes a few weeks after it was caught being filmed for a commercial.
Buried in a part of the carmaker’s presentation, where it was listed as “Coming Soon,” the 2022 Xpander completely shows off the new fascia. New dumbbell-shaped (or sideways-T-shaped, if you prefer) headlamps replace the completely vertical unit seen in the current Mitsubishi MPV. The new headlights also sculpt deeper onto the front bumper, where it shows its revised Dynamic Shield grille. The LED DRLs at the top also look redesigned.
Being the clearest look yet on the 2022 Xpander, Mitsubishi has opted to keep the front fog lamps at the bottom of the front bumper. They might gain LED lighting, at least for the upper trims, though. The 16-inch wheels also feature a new blade-like design. The rear, although not shown in the official Mitsubishi paperwork, does have the same sideways-T-shaped cutouts to echo the new headlights.
The presentation doesn’t dive into what sort of mechanicals the refreshed Xpander might have, but it’s almost for certain to retain the 1.5-liter 4A91 engine with 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque. The current transmission is a 4-speed automatic, but there are unfounded reports that Mitsubishi might opt to go with a gearless CVT for the update.
Despite the “official” leak, the redesigned Xpander is due to arrive by November 8, so keep posted on any official info that comes out from Indonesia, where its global debut will be made.
